How to Care for Your Jewellery

Keep your treasures sparkling for years to come with these essential tips.

At Bella K Jewellery, we believe your jewellery should be worn, loved, and passed on for generations. Whether it’s a delicate gold necklace, a sterling silver ring, or a pearl bracelet, proper care will preserve its beauty and sentiment. Here’s how to make sure your jewellery stays as brilliant as the day you received it.

✨ Everyday Care Tips

  • Remove jewellery before physical activity:
Whether you're exercising, cleaning, or gardening, it's best to take off your jewellery. Dirt, chemicals, or impact can cause damage—especially to delicate stones and softer metals.

  • Avoid contact with cosmetics:
Perfume, hairspray, lotions, and makeup can dull the shine of your jewellery or damage its surface. Apply these products first, let them dry, then add your jewellery last.

  • Store pieces separately:
Keep your jewellery in soft pouches or individual compartments to prevent scratches, especially with pearls and softer stones. Avoid tossing everything into a single box—tangles and scratches can happen quickly.

💧 Cleaning Your Jewellery

  • Gentle is best:
For most pieces, use a soft cloth and warm soapy water. Avoid abrasive brushes or harsh chemicals.

  • Ultrasonic cleaners:
These are great for gold and diamonds, but not suitable for pearls, lapis lazuli, coral, turquoise, or mother-of-pearl. Always check if your piece can handle ultrasonic vibration.

  • Silver and gold dips:
Use only specialised jewellery dips for cleaning silver or gold—never use products meant for cutlery or household metals. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth.

🌸 Caring for Pearls & Delicate Gems

Pearls are particularly delicate and require extra love:

  • Never expose pearls to perfume, hairspray, or makeup.

  • Store them flat and away from other items.

  • Avoid long exposure to sunlight as UV rays can dry out and fade pearls.

💎 Additional Tips

  • Remove jewellery before bed or showering.
Prolonged moisture exposure can weaken clasps and settings, especially with gold-plated items or leather bands.

  • Signs of wear are natural.
Light scratches and scuffs are normal signs of love and wear. For a professional refresh, Bella K offers cleaning and polishing services on request.

  • Children’s jewellery:
For younger wearers, we recommend our pieces for ages 8 and up. For children under 3, jewellery should only be worn with supervision.

With just a little care, your jewellery will stay beautiful, wearable, and meaningful for many years to come. If you're ever unsure how to clean or care for a piece, feel free to reach out—we’re always happy to help.
